For one week in June 2010, three lucky school pupils swapped their classrooms in Aberdeenshire for the offices of KCA Deutag, a leading international drilling contractor based in the German town of Bad Bentheim.
The pupils were the winners of a German language competition organised jointly by KCA Deutag and the German Consulate General in Edinburgh. Their week in Bad Bentheim gave them an insight into the workings of the company, and even included a visit to an oil rig. They also learnt more about German culture and traditions by staying with a German family and spending a day in a German school.
