Why think German?

Tell the world how German has changed your perspective.

MP Ben Bradshaw studied German and was the Berlin correspondent with BBC Radio in 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell. Here is what he thinks about the importance of learning foreign languages:

"Learning another language expands the mind, life experience and also employability. German is the most widely spoken language in Europe - where the UK does most of its business. It is also the language of Goethe and Mozart. Understanding Tristan and Isolde in the original is a pleasure not to be underestimated, and of course a command of German makes a holiday to Germany, Austria, most of Switzerland and much of central Europe a much easier experience."
